In today’s post, I’ll share 5 of the best queen size mattresses under $500. These are cheap mattresses that are still comfortable and supportive, so you can get a good night’s sleep (without breaking the bank).
Two quick notes:
- This list does not include foundations or mattress accessories. Foundations are bed frames, boxsprings, and adjustable bed frames. Mattress accessories are bed sheets, mattress protectors, bed pillows, and blankets. Foundations and mattress accessories are both really important to complete your bed, and we cover them in other posts (see our guide on foundations here and our guide on pillows, sheets, and blankets).
- In this post, I don’t go into deep detail. These are high quality beds at a low price point. If you want to learn more about what goes into making a budget mattress (technology and specifications), you can skip ahead to the sections at the end of the post on memory foam mattresses, hybrid mattresses, innerspring mattresses, and latex mattresses.
Now, let’s get started on finding you your new bed.
Why we like it: The Linenspa 8 inch hybrid is an affordable firm mattress. This makes it a good choice for back sleepers and stomach sleepers. The top layer is a plush layer of memory foam, but it’s very thin. So it’ll be enough for back sleepers and stomach sleepers but if you’re mainly a side sleeper, we recommend going to the next item on our list.
Why we like it: The Zinus 12 inch memory foam mattress is a great deal for its price. It’s 12 inches thick, so it’s going to be more plush or softer than the Linenspa 8 inch. That’s why the Zinus 12 inch mattress is great for side sleepers, but it’s not too soft for back sleepers. (If you’re mainly a stomach sleeper you will probably want a firmer bed).
Why we like it: The Lucid 10 inch model isn’t as thick as the 12 inch mattresses on our list, so it’s a little firmer. But it isn’t as firm as the 8 inch mattress on our list. Think of this bed as a medium firm and a great mattress for back sleepers. It offers just a little give, which means that your hips won’t sink too deep into the mattress, which is perfect for back sleepers. And because it uses memory foam, you’re going to get a lot of pressure relief from the Lucid 10 inch.

Why we like it:
The IYEE 12 inch innerspring mattress gives you that familiar bounce of a coil mattress. It has a 9 inch pocketed ccoil, which gives this bed a lot of durability (it’ll last and is protected by a 10 year mattress warranty), and 3 inches of a comfort layer. Plus, the pocketed coils help cut down on motion transfer, which means if you’re sharing the bed, you won’t feel them move as much.
The IYEE 12 inch is a good choice for all types of sleepers, including side, back, and stomach. For $325 (and that includes free delivery for Prime members) it’s well worth it.
