Keetsa Tea Leaf Supreme Review (2023)

Keetsa is an online mattress company that makes several different bed in a box mattresses. They’re mattressed are shipped directly to you (and come with free delivery because they’re conveniently compressed down and shipped in a box). Keetsa mattresses come with a 100-night sleep trial (so you can return it if you don’t like it).  After the sleep trial is up, you’re protected by a 12-year warranty. This warranty is really there to help you if your mattress starts sagging or develops a dip. (A sagging bed can lead to tossing and turning and a painful night’s sleep.)

Keetsa makes 6 different mattresses and in this post, we’re going to review one of their most popular models — the Keetsa Tea Leaf Supreme

Here’s a quick breakdown of some key details:

  • The Keetsa Tea Leaf Supreme is a memory foam mattress (which means it’s good at providing pressure relief).
  • The Tea Leaf Supreme has edge support. (I.e. the edge of the bed is a little firmer/sturdier than the rest of the mattress. This is perfect if you like to sit on the edge of the bed and tie your shoes in the morning.)
  • The Teal Leaf Supreme has over 200 4-star reviews (and over 180 perfect 5-star reviews) from its customers.
  • The Tea Leaf Supreme is eco-friendly, supportive, and comfortable.
  • The Tea Leaf Supreme is currently on sale. Usually, a queen-size Tea Leaf Supreme is $1890, but at the moment you can use the promo code SNOOZE to get 20%. (FYI: This promo code will work for any Keetsa mattress, not just the Tea Leaf Supreme.)
  • The Tea Leaf Supreme — like all Keetsa mattresses — has a 12-year mattress warranty and a 100 night trial period.

Our Keetsa Tea Leaf Supreme Review (Updated for 2023)

Keetsa Tea Leaf Supreme

The Keetsa Tea Leaf Supreme is a 12-inch tall memory foam mattress that uses all foam layers from top to bottom.

Let’s go through each layer in more detail.

  1. The cover: The cover is a linen blend cover. Linen is known for its softness and its breathability. Putting a linen blend cover helps keep you from sleeping hot at night.
  2. Fire barrier: Directly beneath the cover is a fire barrier — this is a cotton fabric that’s treated to be flame retardant.
  3. Fiber padding: The Tea Leaf Supreme’s first comfort layer is a layer of fiber padding. The Tea Leaf Surpeme’s fiber padding also wicks away moisture. Between the cool linen cover and this layer of fiber padding, the Tea Leaf Supreme is going all out to make sure you won’t sleep hot.
  4. BioFoam®: A double layer of high-density foam conforms comfortably to your body shape and temperature, creating a body-conforming contour that cradles you in pressure-free sleep. It’s this BioFoam® that helps provide you with pressure relief, which is what makes the Keeta Tea Leaf Supreme a good choice for people struggling with back pain.
  5. The Core— The Keetsa Tea Leaf Supreme has a thick core layer of foam. This serves as the mattress’s support layer. Basically, its firm and rigid layer helps support the rest of the mattress.

Reasons to Buy the Keetsa Tea Leaf Supreme

Reason #1: It’s (relatively) affordable

Whether something is affordable or not depends less on the price tag, and more on the amount you have in your bank account. And there is a wide range of prices for quality memory foam mattresses. Still, after doing all of the mattress reviews we’ve done, we think Keetsa is affordably priced (for what it offers).

Here’s the full pricing breakdown of the Keetsa Tea Leaf Supreme.

  • Twin — $1190
  • Full — $1590
  • Queen — $1890
  • King — $2290
  • Cal-King — $2290

Keep in mind those are the regular prices. There are almost always promos on Keetsa.com. Right now, you can get 20% off any mattress with the promo code STAYCOMFY (at the time of this post’s writing, subject to change without notice from the retailer).

Reason #2: You’re a side sleeper or back sleeper

Our Keetsa Tea Leaf Supreme Mattress Review

Side sleeping and back sleeping are by far the most popular sleeping positions. The Keetsa Tea Leaf Supreme is a medium-soft mattress, which makes it great for side sleepers. Your shoulders and hips get the contouring support they need. On a firmer bed, you might experience a dull sensation in your arm or pressure on your hips. Not in the Keetsa Tea Leaf Supreme.

Because of its strong and durable core layer, the Tea Leaf Supreme is also great for back sleepers. But if you’re above average in size, then you might want a slightly firmer mattress

Reason #2: You want to finance your new mattress

Keetsa partners with Affirm financing, which can often offer 0% interest.

Reasons Not to Buy the Keetsa Tea Leaf Supreme

Reason #1: You’re a stomach sleeper/You want a firmer mattress

First, it’s good to note that stomach sleeping isn’t recommended. It isn’t very good for you. It goes against the natural curve of your spine and can put a lot of pressure on your lower back. It’s also bad for your neck, which is often turned awkwardly when you sleep on your side.

But if you’re a stomach sleeper and can’t change to a side sleeping or back sleeping position, then you’re going to want a firmer bed than the Tea Leaf Supreme. You can reach our review on the Keetsa Cloud, which is our pick for stomach sleepers.

Reason #2: It’s out of your budget

The Keetsa Tea Leaf Supreme is a reasonably priced mattress, but it still might be out of your budget. We don’t think you should go into debt for a mattress. There are quality mattresses at most price points (though it’s a challenge to find a queen mattress that will last for under $800).

If the Keetsa Tea Leaf Supreme is out of your budget — and you don’t want to finance your purchase — then check out the Keetsa Cloud. The Cloud is a memory foam mattress that provides a lot of the same features as the Tea Leaf Supreme, but it’s much more affordable — the Keetsa Cloud is (with the promo code) under $1000.

For a full breakdown of the two models, see our post: Keetsa Tea Leaf Supreme vs the Keetsa Cloud.

Reason #3: You hate memory foam

The Keetsa Tea Leaf Supreme is made of all foam. It uses both memory foam (which conforms to you) and poly-foam (which is firmer).

Memory foam isn’t for everyone. Some people prefer the bounce and familiarity of a coil mattress. If this is you, then you’re not going to like the Tea Leaf Supreme.

In this case, we’d recommend that you look at the Keetsa Pillow Plus. This is an innerspring mattress that uses coils as its support system.

FAQs

How long do Keetsa mattresses last?

Keetsa mattresses have a 12 year warranty. That 12 year warranty mainly helps protect your investment in case your new bed starts to develop a sag or dip within those 12 years.

That means your Keetsa mattress is meant to last at least 12 years. But that doesn’t mean that after 12 years it’s time for a new bed. To figure out how to decide if it’s time for a new bed, check out our list of 5 signs it’s time for a new mattress.

Can I buy a Keetsa mattress on Amazon?

Sometimes you’ll find a Keetsa mattress on Amazon but keep in mind that this is from a reseller. That means if you buy your Keetsa mattress on Amazon.com, you’re not buying it from an official Keetsa store.

In these cases, Keetsa will likely not be able to help you with 1) your sleep trial or 2) your mattress warranty. You’d have to deal with the reseller who sold you your mattress.

That’s why we recommend — if you’re going to buy a Keesta bed — to buy it from Keetsa.com.

If you’re looking to buy through Amazon, check out our list of the best mattresses on Amazon.

Cold Brew vs Iced Coffee: What’s the Difference?

The other day an elderly gentleman at the local cafe where I get my coffee was getting irritated with the barista. He wanted an iced coffee, but the barista explained that this cafe didn’t have iced coffee but only served hot coffee, espresso drinks, and cold brew.

The elderly gentleman struggled to understand:

  • Was cold brew different than iced coffee?
  • Is cold brew an iced coffee alternative?
  • If he ordered a cold brew would he be satisfied or annoyed?

The truth is a lot of people struggle to explain the key differences of cold brew vs iced coffee.

Which is a shame because, despite both being cold coffee drinks, they taste different, their effect on your body is different, and the pricing is often different.

In this post, we’re going to give you all the info you need to know to decide between an iced coffee or cold brew or something else on the menu completely.

Cold Brew Vs. Iced Coffee: The Basics

These two types of coffee beverages are quite distinct in terms of their brewing process, flavor, and characteristics.

Different brewing processes

  • Cold brew: Cold brew coffee is made by steeping coarsely ground coffee beans in cold water for an extended period, usually 12 to 24 hours. The coffee grounds are then filtered out, leaving you with a smooth, concentrated coffee. Cold brew can be served over ice, with milk or water to dilute it, or even heated if desired.
  • Iced coffee: Iced coffee is simply hot brewed coffee chilled and poured over ice. This method typically uses a standard drip coffee maker, espresso machine, or pour-over method. Once the coffee is brewed, it’s cooled down by refrigeration or pouring it over ice.

Different flavor and characteristics

  • Cold brew: Due to the long steeping process and the absence of heat, cold brew coffee tends to have a smoother, less acidic, and less bitter taste compared to iced coffee. The flavor profile is usually characterized by its natural sweetness and rich, full-bodied taste. Cold brew is also more concentrated, which means it has a higher caffeine content.
  • Iced coffee: Since iced coffee is brewed with hot water, it retains the acidity and bitterness that are typically associated with hot coffee. When the hot coffee is cooled and poured over ice, some dilution occurs, which can alter the flavor and strength of the coffee. The flavor profile of iced coffee varies depending on the beans used and the brewing method, but generally, it is less smooth and sweet compared to cold brew.

To recap: cold brew and iced coffee differ in their brewing processes, flavor profiles, and characteristics. Cold brew is smoother, less acidic, and more concentrated, while iced coffee is brewed hot and tends to retain the acidity and bitterness associated with hot coffee. It’s worth trying both to see which one you prefer!

Remember: iced coffee is just coffee brewed hot (read: normal brewing methods, such as a drip coffee maker or french press) and then refrigerated.

It is literally that simple. You can also brew hot coffee and then pour it over a cup full of ice cubes to cool it down immediately. The ice cubes melt fairly quickly, and your coffee is more lukewarm-to cool instead of ice cold, but it’s a similar effect.

This is why iced coffee is pretty cheap. At Starbucks, a venti (that’s 20oz) of iced coffee is around $3.45.

Fun Iced Coffee Fact: Not too long ago some customers brought a lawsuit against Starbucks for underpouring. You see, when you order a venti iced coffee, you’re not getting 20z of cold coffee. You’re getting roughly 14 oz of coffee and then the rest of the space is filled up with the ice. Personally, I think the lawsuit is absurd. An iced coffee includes ice – if you ask for no ice, then you’ll get 20z of coffee. But anyway, back to the post.

Second, cold brew coffee is not brewed hot. That’s the key difference.

That’s why it’s called cold brew. Basically, ground up coffee beans are collected in mesh bags, and then stored for a specific amount of time in the fridge in a vat of water (usually between 12 and 24 hours in the fridge). This is called cold brewing. Generally, the longer the brew time, the more smoothe the cold brew will taste.

A venti cold brew at Starbucks, by the way, costs roughly $3.95. So it’s more money, but not by much. That extra charge is, I’d figure, the time it takes to brew.

Fans of cold brew maintain a few things:

  1. Cold brew is less bitter and less acidic than iced coffee, making it a smoother drink.
  2. Cold brew has more caffeine and gives you a stronger kick.
  3. Cold brew is healthier for you than just iced coffee.

Let’s take a look about how true those claims are.

What’s so special about cold brew coffee?

Besides being brewed in cold or lukewarm water, cold brew supporters maintain it has a lower amount of acidity.

This has more or less been debunked. While cold brew may taste less acidic, it’s actual pH levels are aligned with iced coffee.

Does cold brew have more caffeine than iced coffee?

Cold brew supporters also maintain their cup of cold brew will give them more energy than your cup of iced coffee.

Is this true?

Turns out, yes.

Cold brew – as shown by the nutritional information available at Starbuckcs – contains 20% more caffeine than their iced coffee of the same size.

Caffeine Addict Note: Hot coffee still contains the most caffeine, 20 milligrams per ounce vs the 12 milligrams per ounce of cold brew.

But that’s just for Starbucks coffee. The actual caffeine amount will change from brand to brand.

This is why some coffee drinkers maintain cold brew wrecks havoc on their stomach but iced coffee does not.

As glorious as caffeine is, it’s rough on the stomach.

Is cold brew healthier?

Cold brew is neither healthier nor unhealthier. It has caffeine, so it comes with the same pros and cons of caffeine intake. Depending on where you get your cold brew, it may have a little more caffeine than you’re used to or drastically more. In which case, the pros and cons are the same but the effects are exacerbated.

Cold Brew vs Iced Coffee: A Recap

  • Cold brew is less acidic than iced coffee? Mostly bullshit. Listen, I drink cold brew every day. I get where cold brew supporters are coming from. When you compare cold brew from you local cafe with iced coffee from Starbucks, the cold brew tastes less acidic. But that’s less because it’s cold brew and because you’re comparing the cold brewing methods of two radically different cafes. Starbucks cold brew – without cream – is definitely just as acidic.
  • Cold brew is healthier than iced coffee? More bullshit. Cold brew can, depending again on who is making it, contain significantly more caffeine.
  • Cold brew costs a lot more than iced coffee? Once again, depends. If you’re at starbucks, the difference between a cold brew and an iced coffee is about 50 cents.

So, again, what’s so special about cold brew?

It’s just another way to brew coffee. Coffee is a world of granular detail. The differences between a macchiato and a latte are small yet, to coffee lovers, huge. Same with the differences between a moka pot or an aeropress or a french press.

Some people just prefer cold brew. Others prefer iced coffee.

However, it’s worth clarifying: this post mostly has covered cold brew found at big chains like Dunkin and Starbucks. There is a whole world of craft cold brew where, when you find the right brand, you’ll likely become a cold brew fan for life.

Things To Consider Before Buying Reading Chairs

Material used

Some people prefer leather chairs while some prefer textile upholstery. So, always consider what fabric you like the best while considering reading chairs. You will be spending a long time engrossed in a good book, so the fabric shouldn’t cause you any irritation.

Ease of assembly

How long does it take to put your Ikea furniture together? Can you put a reading chair together by yourself? The ease of assembly is important to consider when ordering online. If you are unsure about your skills, it’s best to get a chair that can be assembled easily. Or better yet, a fully-assembled chair that you can sink into right away. But, if you enjoy Ikea builds by yourself or with a friend, go ahead with reading chairs that can be a fun game to put together too.

Size

Where are you planning to place the reading chair? How big or small is the space? You don’t want to end up with a giant bean bag for a small space in your apartment or with a tiny swivel chair for a sufficiently large living room. Always consider the size of both the chair and your space so you don’t have to call up Amazon for a return.

Comfort

Since you’ll be spending a long time reading and rereading some interesting books, comfort is crucial. Long hours of reading sessions can lead to back and neck pain so always go for n ergonomically designed chairs that ensure proper support.

Ease of cleaning

Whether you are clumsy and awkward or not, we all tend to spill our tea (no pun intended) once in a while. We can’t avoid the inevitable but we can ease the cleaning process by getting a chair that won’t hold stains like your enemies hold grudges against you. And if you are as clumsy as I am, definitely get a chair that can be cleaned easily. Period.

Conclusion

Losing track of time is quite easy when reading a good book, but sitting down for long hours can be detrimental to health. So, we advise you to get up and move around every hour. But, we know how hard it can be to put down a book. Anyway, from redesigned bean bags to retro-inspired tufted chairs, and everything in between, these are some of the best reading chairs that you can spend hours on without hurting your back! Add some throw pillows for a cozy feel, and you’ll never want to get up. Time to curl in with a fluffy blanket and a good book!

8 Best Coffee Grinders of 2021

Having a coffee maker alone does not ensure you can brew the perfect cup. A grinder is an essential part of the process. While some coffee makers today come with a built-in coffee grinder, some only brew ground coffee. And any coffee snob will tell you about the horror of using instant coffee powder, or stale ground coffee. Pre-ground coffee never tastes as good as freshly ground coffee does.

For the fresh-tasting coffee of your dreams, you have to grind the beans just before the brewing process. Coffee beans stay potent in an air-tight container for some time, but ground coffee (yes, even high-quality ones) will quickly lose its flavor when stored for long. So, if you want to wake up and brew a delicious cup of joe, you will need a grinder to go with the coffee maker!

After considering many grinders from various brands and going through endless reviews on Amazon, we have compiled our top picks of the best coffee grinders below.

8 Best Coffee Grinders of 2021

  1. Baratza Encore Conical Burr Coffee Grinder
  2. Cuisinart DBM 8 Supreme Grind Automatic Burr Mill
  3. Bodum Bistro Coffee Grill
  4. Breville Smart Grinder
  5. KPUPS Flat Precision
  6. OXO Conical Brew

Since the Baratza Encore is small in size, it fits well even in small kitchens and crowded countertops. Also, the Cuisinart Supreme Grind has an automatic shut-off feature after the grind cycle is complete, ensuring uniform grinds. Apart from the powerful grinding process, the elegant stainless steel design is a win among most users. 3. Bodum BISTRO Burr Coffee Grinder

The Bodum Bistro electric burr grinder is a safe option for people who do not want to compromise quality but don’t want to break the bank either. The stainless steel conical burrs preserve the bean’s rich flavor and aroma better than a standard blade grinder.

With 12 adjustable grind settings, it is perfect for people who go from French Press coffee in the morning to latte at noon and espresso by the evening. A feature that this grinder is lauded for is the automatic pre-set timer. It allows you to grind just enough whole beans as needed so the beans can stay fresh for a longer time.

However, this coffee grinder fails to work flawlessly for coarse grinds. Many reviewers on Amazon complained that the coarse grinds are often chunky and inconsistent. Plus, the cleaning process can be quite a hassle. Nevertheless, the Bodum Bistro is one of the best burr coffee grinders.

The OXO Brew has 40-millimeter stainless steel conical burrs that offer consistent coffee grinding and promise durability. It boasts of 15 grind settings (and extra micro settings) that lets you choose the grinding process according to the type of coffee you want to brew next.

However, some buyers on Amazon have shared that the bottom burr can’t be removed for cleaning, which if present would have been a cherry on top. But the top burr can be removed easily by a ‘cute little handle’ so it’s not really a deal-breaker.

7. Baratza Virtuoso+ Conical Burr Coffee Bean Grinder

We just had to include another grinder from Barazta because they really are one of the best coffee grinder brands. The Virtuoso has been loved by coffee geeks for years, and this model comes with upgrades like a digital timer and enhanced burr set.

Don’t go for the looks with this one, because even in a small size, the Baratza Virtuoso+ packs a punch in terms of performance. Armed with 40 grind settings, it can grind beans for all brew methods like espresso, Aeropress, Hario V60, Chemex, French Press, and automatic brewers — you name it.

Another feature that sets it apart and *justifies* the price tag is the LED-backlit grounds bin. Also, we love how every product from this brand is designed to fix, rather than throw out. This not only increases durability but also saves the planet while you can indulge in good coffee. Sign me up already!

Pros

  • Produces consistent grind

  • Design to fix, rather than throw out

8. Porlex Mini Stainless Steel Coffee Grinder

If you love savoring the craftsmanship of brewing good coffee manually, then this is the grinder for you. With a smaller profile, this grinder is perfect for travel or if you want a nice forearm workout while you grind the beans.

A hand grinder may not be an ideal choice if you have to brew multiple cups a day (imagine the sore muscles you might get), but it’s okay for people who love the idea of crafting coffee all by themselves. The ceramic burrs can be adjusted to grind coffee beans into fine powder for espresso, medium grind for pour-over, or coarse grind for French Press.

The Porlex is not an affordable alternative to an electric grinder by any means, and don’t expect it to be one. For the same price range, you can get other electric coffee grinders if a manual grinder does not fit your consumption pattern. Nonetheless, the Porlex is one of the best manual coffee grinders you can get on Amazon.

Pros

  • Ceramic burrs
  • Capacity: 20 grams
  • Portable and consistent
  • Stainless steel body
  • Not prone to static cling
  • Small and compact design

Cons

  • Labor-intensive, not suitable for multiple cups of coffee

Things To Consider Before Buying Coffee Grinders

Blade Vs Burr Grinders

Coffee experts favor burr grinders over blade coffee grinders for one simple reason: the consistency. When it comes to brewing coffee, having a consistent particle size is very important to get good tasting coffee. While burrs give a consistent grind for flavorful extraction, blade grinders simply chop the whole beans inconsistently. This results in under-extracted or over-extracted coffee, which tastes as unpleasant as it sounds. On the other hand, burr grinders give you more control over the extraction process.

Grind settings

Another factor to consider the number of grind settings it offers. If you are loyal to just one type of coffee, you don’t need to worry about having 15 or 40 different settings. But if you like espresso on day 1 and like whipping up cold brew the next, you might want to get a grinder that gives you lots of settings for the optimal grind size.

Bean hopper size

A large bean hopper is ideal if you don’t like the hassle of refilling the beans frequently. Or you if you need to grind a large amount of coffee every day. But a small hopper reduces the overall size and weight of the grinder if you are looking to save space on your countertop.

Easy cleaning

Most grinders do not need frequent cleaning and if you go from light roast to dark often, it still shouldn’t be much of a problem. But if you like flavored coffee drinks, it’s probably smarter to get a grinder that can be cleaned easily. Some models even come with brushes and removable top burrs for an easy cleaning process. You don’t want hints of cinnamon from yesterday in your morning americano now, do you?

Conclusion

So whether you own an espresso machine or a drip coffee maker, having a coffee bean grinder is a must, built-in or otherwise. If you can’t afford to get a grinder (well, because they are expensive), you can buy pre-ground coffee from local shops but they will not taste as good as freshly ground coffee does.

Things To Consider Before Buying L Shaped Desks

Your working style

What is your working style? Or gaming style? Are you someone who needs two monitors to get your work done or is one enough? Do you get swamped with paperwork and documents? Your working style is an important factor to consider before getting a desk.

Size of the desk

L shaped desks come in different sizes from small to big. A small desk can still be functional and space-saving when you don’t have a lot of room to spare. Similarly, if you have plenty of space (which is rare) or your work demands a large work surface, go for a bigger desk.

Storage options

Some desks come with drawers and file cabinets, and some with even a hutch. If you have tons of gaming gears or important files and documents, definitely go with something that can hold all your stuff. If not, a simple desk with ample legroom can be functional and comfortable. Even though the amount of storage is a personal matter, a good desk should have enough storage to enhance your efficiency and productivity.

Height of the desk

Getting a desk only to regret it later would be devastating. Grab a chair and try it with the desk. Is the height comfortable for you? Or would you prefer it if the desk was slightly higher or lower? While most people opt for a general desk, some people today look for a standing desk — turns out there are numerous health benefits to this! But this is completely a preference and you should get what’s comfortable for you. If you are considering a standing desk, make sure that the height is adjustable. So you can easily go from standing to sitting in your office chair, which is actually super healthy instead of just sitting or standing for a prolonged time.

Conclusion

L shaped desks are perfect for small offices and living rooms, especially when you need a space-saving desk without sacrificing storage options. They blend style and function to increase efficiency and make the best out of small spaces.

But at the end of the day, the desk you choose should reflect your personal style and address your problems. From simple designs to an adjustable standing desk, we hope you find the best l shaped desk suited to your needs.

All you have to do is spray the product on your bathtub, tiles, etc., and wait for 5 minutes. Thereafter, you can scrub gently or put some pressure, depending on the stains. Although the strong scent is a bummer, the product does not disappoint in any other way. It is suitable to be used on tile, fiberglass, porcelain, and grout.

Plus, the refill packs are easily available so you do not have to worry about buying too many plastic containers.

Pros

  • Contains chlorine bleach and other strong ingredients that remove stains instantly
  • Easy to use
  • Extremely effective on mold infestation
  • Suitable for tile, fiberglass, porcelain, and grout

3. CLR Pro Calcium, Lime, and Rust Remover

If you’ve been struggling with tough mineral deposits that make your bathtub look stained, even after cleaning, check out the CLR Pro Calcium, Lime, and Rust Remover. Hard water stains are not so hard now, are they?

Whether the surface is porcelain or metal, CLR goes to the core of the stain and dissolves it. All you have to do is mix the CLR solution with warm water in a 1:1 ratio, and use it on the required areas with a sponge.  While it is best to check the directions for use mentioned on the container, according to our experience, older stains need undiluted CLR.

Finally, you can use this multi-purpose cleaner to unclog faucets and showerheads as well.

Pros

  • Cleans hard water stains, mineral deposits, etc.
  • Unclogs showerheads, faucets, drains, etc.
  • Easy to use— just mix with water and apply
  • Very powerful formula

Cons

  • Acidic enough to harm certain surfaces
  • Do not mix with other solutions
  • Produces harmful fumes

You can let the solution sit for a few minutes on tough stains, or just spray and wipe for easy stains. Either way, you will not have to resort to scrubbing vigorously, making this soap scum cleaner an effort and time saver!

We like this product because it doubles up as a shower cleaner, tile cleaner, outdoor furniture cleaner, and more. Reviews on Amazon swear by the convenience and versatility of this multi-purpose cleaner.

But it is an effective stain remover and a great option for a weekly bathroom cleaning session. This bathtub cleaner dissolves soap scum, cuts through grease, and kills bacteria.

Since it does not contain bleach, it is also safe enough to use without gloves or any other protective gear.Though, you’ll have to resort to some elbow grease to achieve a squeaky clean bathtub. To make it easier on your body, we recommend using a scrubber or any cleaning brush instead of a sponge or cloth.

Things to Consider While Buying a Bathtub Cleaner

Types of Bathtubs

The size and material of your bathtub is an important factor while choosing the best bathtub cleaner. Since most tub cleaners are made of strong chemicals, some may harm a particular material. Some of the most popular materials used in making bathtubs are acrylic, porcelain, fiberglass, and cast iron. You must check the instruction label on a bathroom cleaner to know whether it is suitable for your bathtub.

Fragrance

Due to the chemicals in these bathtub cleaners, they might emit some unpleasant odor. Ensure that the one you choose does not produce harmful fumes that may cause breathing problems in the long run.

Types of Ingredients/ Effectiveness

Just like the first point, the ingredients in a particular bathtub cleaner determine whether it will be effective enough on your bathtub or not. Some ingredients may cause discoloration on shower walls, shower walls, stainless steel, etc. We recommend asking the seller beforehand or checking Amazon reviews.

Versatility

It is best to purchase a product that offers more than one uses. If a formula can provide a sparkly clean bathtub, tiles, windows, and more— it’s a steal! Do your research and then make the splurge.

Method of Using

In this busy and fast-paced world, the last thing we’d want to do is scrub our bathtub. Get your hand on a heavy-duty formula that works well without scrubbers, cleaning brushes, mops, etc. There are plenty of options in the market that require you to simply pour the product and voilà… a brand new bathtub!

Conclusion

Why waste time scrubbing the bathtub with DIY methods when you can get powerful cleaners and sanitizers that will do the job within minutes. While natural cleaners like white vinegar, baking soda, etc. may be readily available in the kitchen, pitching in a few extra bucks can save you so much time and effort.

But remember, tough stains caused by foaming, hard water stains, soap scum, etc. often need strong and potent mixtures to be completely erased.

How Often Should You Vacuum?

When was the last time you vacuumed?

If you’re like me, it could be hard to remember. And when you do actually vacuum, are you vacuuming underneath the couch, the coffee table, the bed, and along the baseboards?

How often you should vacuum – and how intense you should vacuum – depends on several things, such as whether or not you’re in a family home (with children and their friends coming in and out), whether you have carpet or hardwood or tile floors, and whether you have a pet or not.

But in this article, we’re going to look at the benefits of vacuuming (discuss if you can vacuum TOO MUCH) and give some general recommendations on how to vacuum your home in a timely fashion.

Benefits of Vacuuming Daily

Plenty of people dislike vacuuming, but I secretly like it. Perhaps it depends on what kind of vacuum you have (some data shows that using a Dyson vacuum actually makes men more likely to vacuum because it’s a more enjoyable experience). Either way, there are some legitimate benefits to vacuuming daily.

  • If you vacuum daily, your home will be cleaner. We don’t just mean the floors, though that’s obviously true. But the air can be cleaner too. Indoor air pollution is a major issue in some cities and can be a real problem during the winter or spring seasons. By vacuuming daily, you’re removing pollen and allergens from your home. This means vacuuming daily (or at least 2-3 times a week) can help you breathe better and reduce allergies.
  • Your home will smell better. If you have animals with hair, this is a no brainer. Animals shed but they also track in dirt and dust. This either permeates the carpet or gets into the corners of hardwood floors. Either way, over time, this can create a stale atmosphere that smells a little bit like a storage shed.
  • It’s better for your floor. If you have carpet, vacuuming every day can help reduce stains and extend the life and quality of your carpet fibers. If you have hard floors, like wood, vinyl, or tile, then vacuuming daily can keep pebbles or rocks or dirt off the floor that would otherwise scratch the surface.

Is it Bad to Vacuum Every Day?

Not really. But it depends on your vacuum. If you have a cheaper vacuum it might break down faster if you vacuum every day. The motor and belts will wear out. This is easily avoidable by investing in a high-quality vacuum, like a Dyson or Shark.

And some vacuums don’t do a good job at trapping the pollen allergens they suck up – this means you could just be kicking up dirt out of your floor and into the air.

If after you vacuum you notice your allergies increase or you get more headaches, then that could be a sign that your vacuuming is doing more harm than again.

But again, that doesn’t mean you should quit vacuuming, it just means you need a better vacuum. We recommend finding a vacuum with a HEPA filter.

How Often Should You Vacuum Your mattress?

It wasn’t until I started writing about vacuuming that I realized you should vacuum your mattress. Now I do it once a month.

Here’s why.

A lot of newer mattresses, especially bed in a box mattresses, are memory foam. Memory foam mattresses are all the rage because they are great and comfortable. But they are also dense and dirt/dust doesn’t get into the bed. That’s a good thing! Before, with innerspring mattresses, dirt and pollen would get into the bed (and actually make the bed heavier over the years!) and it’d be impossible to clean.

But memory foam mattresses or latex mattresses don’t let that happen – which is great unless, like me, you didn’t realize you’re supposed to vacuum your mattress.

We recommend that every time you wash your sheets, just take a little time and vacuum your bed. This is really easy if you have a stick or handheld vacuum.

How Often Should You Vacuum Your Car?

You should vacuum your car as often as you wash your car. Unless you never wash your car, then we got a problem. But the rule of thumb is you should wash your car once a month (this helps keep the paint quality in good condition).

A lot of drive-thru car washes offer free vacuums after you get your car cleaned. But you can also use a stick vacuum to vacuum your car at your house. It’s important to move the seats forward and back so you can clean underneath them. Also, don’t forget to clean under the floor mats.

Most people don’t realize how much time they spend in their car, but vacuuming your car once a month will keep it clean, smelling fresh, and will help protect the interior.

Zenhaven Mattress Review (2023)

The Zenhaven is a flippable, latex mattress. The Zenhaven mattress offers eco-friendly materials, free shipping, a fair sleep trial, and a long warranty. But will the Zenhaven help you get better sleep?

That’s the question we’re going to explore in our Zenhaven mattress review.

In this post, we’ll look at how the Zenhaven mattress is made, what customers are saying about it, and whether or not the Zenhaven is a mattress worth buying.

Is Zenhaven a Good Mattress?

The Zenhaven is a reputable mattress that is made with quality materials and backed by a fair sleep trial and warranty.  By any definition, it’s a good mattress.

Whether or not the Zenhaven mattress is the best mattress for you. When you’re looking for a mattress you want to consider the mattress materials and how the mattress layers are organized while considering your own needs (such as your weight, height, and firmness preference).

Zenhaven Materials

The Zenhaven is a latex mattress with four layers. Latex is best described as a bouncy material that is highly-responsive and durable. Latex is a natural material that comes from the rubber tree. Zenhaven is a natural latex, which is why we like it so much. Natural latex is better and more durable than synthetic latex.

The first layer is 1-inch of 100% organic New Zealand wool. Wool fibers are naturally flame-retardant fibers that help control humidity and are adaptable enough to keep you cool when it’s warm and warm when you’re cold.  We’re impressed anytime we see wool near the top layer of a mattress.

The second layer is 1.5-inches of zoned Talalay latex. Zoned support is a big deal in mattresses because your body isn’t a straight line. It has different needs at the shoulder than it does at the hips. Zenhaven puts extra support in the hip and shoulders, which is great because that’s where you tend to weigh the most.

The third layer is 3 inches of plush Talalay latex. We should mention that all layers of latex in the Zenhaven are Talalay latex. We have a whole post on Talalay latex vs. Dunlop latex, but the main takeaway is Talalay latex is generally softer than Dunlop and bouncier, too.

The fourth layer is another 3 inches of Talalay latex. But these three inches are firmer. (The deeper you go in this mattress, the firmer the layers.)

The fifth and final layer is 1.5-inches of Talalay latex. Of course, this “final” layer becomes the first layer if you flip the mattress.

All of the latex layers are eco-friendly, breathable, and supportive – what changes is the firmness level.

Zenhaven Feel and Firmness

The Zenhaven mattress is available in two firmnesses: luxury plush and gentle firm. As we said in the intro, this is a flippable mattress. So one side is a luxury plush, the other is a gentle firm.

Dual-sided mattresses aren’t as popular as they used to be, but some companies are experimenting with them again (see our Layla mattress review).

We recommend the luxury plush side for side sleepers and combo sleepers (or people who just want that soft, cozy feel) and the gentle firm side for back and stomach sleepers (or people who need a firm feel to fall asleep).

Zenhaven Certifications

As we mentioned above, Zenhaven is a natural latex mattress.

But it also has other certifications worth talking about.

The Zenhaven uses both certified organic wool and certified organic cotton.

Plus, Zenhaven is Oeko-Tex Standard 100. This means the latex in Zenhaven has absolutely no formaldehyde, pesticides, chlorinated phenols, heavy metals, or phthalates.

Finally, the Saatva Company, which makes and sells the Zenhaven mattress, is a supporter of the Sustainable Furnishings Council (SFC). The SFC works to reduce carbon emissions, as well as cut down on waste, unrecyclable content and using unsustainable materials in production.

Zenhaven Sleep Trial and Warranty Info

Zenhaven offers a sleep trial of 120 nights and a 20-year warranty, but let’s dig into the fine print so you don’t have to.

Sleep Trial Details

When you buy a Zenhaven mattress it gets delivered to you, set up in your room, and your old mattress is taken away. All of this is free. But it does mean that if you choose to return your mattress, there’s a $99 transportation fee. Given what you’re getting (free delivery, set up, haul away of your old mattress), we think this is one of the few times where a transportation fee is fair.

Here’s how the sleep trial works.

You buy the Zenhaven, they schedule delivery and come out and set up your mattress. Then the haul your old mattress away (if you want them to). From there, you have 120 nights to try your new mattress.

If you love it, great. If you don’t, they will come out and flip the mattress for you (so you can try the firmer or softer side) or flat-out pick up the mattress and refund you your money (minus the $99 fee we discussed above).

Warranty Details

The Zenhaven mattress comes with a warranty that is non-prorated for 20 years, but there are some caveats.

First, you’re only eligible for a new mattress within the first two years of ownership. After those two years, if a defect occurs, Zenhaven will “completely repair and re-cover your mattress.”

Second, Zenhaven offers something unique called the “Fairness Replacement Option.”

Here’s how the Fairness Replacement option works:

  • Years 3-5: You keep your defective mattress and buy a new Zenhaven mattress for 40% of the original price you paid.
  • Years 6-10: You keep your defective mattress and buy a new Zenhaven mattress for 60% of the original price you paid.
  • Years 11-15: You keep your defective mattress and buy a new Zenhaven mattress for 80% of the original price you paid.

It’s a unique option (and it is an option, you don’t have to choose it, you can have Zenhaven honor their original warranty) and whether or not it works for you will depend on how defective your defective mattress is and whether or not you can find a use for it.

Where are Zenhaven mattresses made?

All of Zenhaven mattresses are made in the U.S.A.

Zenhaven vs. Avocado

Since Zenhaven is a latex mattress, we get a lot of questions asking whether or not it’s as good (or better) than the Avocado latex mattress.

To answer this question, check out our comparison post on Zenhaven vs. Avocado.

Is latex better than memory foam?

Latex and memory foam mattresses are two of the most popular mattress materials in the industry. Latex is bouncy and responsive, while memory foam is conforming and pressure-relieving. There are also made in very different ways.

If you like a soft, contouring feel, look at memory foam mattresses. If you want something eco-friendly and that has the bounce of a traditional mattress, look at latex mattresses.

8 Best Foods for Sleep (Plus, the 8 Worst Foods For Sleep!)

We all know food can affect the way we feel. A big, heavy meal in the middle of the day can often leave us sluggish and unmotivated, while a high protein breakfast can help us feel more energized and ready for the day.

But which foods are best at promoting restful sleep? With a third of US adults getting less than the recommended 7 hours of sleep per night, we have to wonder how diet could be preventing rest. It turns out, specific foods can keep us awake, while others can help us fall asleep quickly and sleep more comfortably.

Why Diet Matters?

Sometimes, no matter how tired you are, your body will not let you sleep. One reason for this could be digestion. When the body is working hard to digest food, it can be difficult to rest peacefully. Foods that are notably harder to digest can make sleep even more elusive. To help you understand how your food choices are keeping you from rest, we’ve included a list of the best and worst foods for sleep below.

8 Best Foods For Sleep

The foods below contain vitamins and minerals that encourage relaxation so we can find rest more easily.

1. Bananas

Bananas are a perfect breakfast food because they contain carbohydrates, potassium, and vitamin B6, all of which help boost energy levels. But bananas are also great for promoting sleep. They contain magnesium, which is a natural muscle relaxer. Additionally, the carbs in bananas also encourage sleepiness.

2. Honey

Since honey can raise insulin, this allows tryptophan to enter the brain. Tryptophan is an amino acid that promotes Niacin. Niacin helps to produce serotonin, which is necessary for the production of melatonin in the body. Melatonin is a key to helping the body relax and prepare for sleep. Consider added a spoon full to camomile tea or just eating it as is.

3. Almonds

Like honey, almonds also contain tryptophan, which can help encourage melatonin production. Almonds also contain magnesium for muscle relaxation. This combination can naturally reduce muscle and nerve activity, and steady the heartbeat.

4. Oats

Oats are rich in fiber and other vitamins and minerals that promote health. But they also contain the amino acid tryptophan, which helps encourage melatonin production, leading to more relaxation.

5. Turkey

There’s a reason many of us need a nap after Thanksgiving dinner. Turkey contains tryptophan, which can give us a gentle nudge towards sleep.

6. Cherries

Believe it or not, cherries naturally contain melatonin. Snacking on a few at night can help you relax more fully and fall asleep faster.

7. Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are packed full of vitamins and minerals that make them perfect for sleep. Their complex carbohydrates and potassium help to relax muscles and nerves naturally. Regular potatoes are also a great source of potassium.

8. Chamomile Tea

For years, chamomile tea has been able to reduce insomnia. One reason for this is the presence of apigenin, an antioxidant that binds specific anxiety receptors in the brain. When we are less anxious, we tend to relax and fall asleep faster.

8 Worst Foods For Sleep

The foods below can be difficult to digest, making it harder for us to relax into sleep.

1. Cruciferous Vegetables

Cruciferous Vegetables, like broccoli, are packed full of healthy vitamins. But it is best to eat them with lunch. The high levels of insoluble fiber can take a long time to digest. If we try to lay down while the body is still working to process them, it can keep us from getting comfortable.

2. Fatty Foods

High-fat foods can be damaging to our health and our sleep. When fat enters the body, it simulates an overproduction of stomach acid. When this happens, it can leak into the esophagus and cause heartburn. Since fat can also loosen the barrier between the stomach and the throat, it can make it easier for acid to leak through into other areas. Trying to sleep with heartburn can be next to impossible.

3. Coffee

It may seem obvious, but some may not realize just how long caffeine stays in our systems. You can often feel the effects of coffee even after 8 hours. Because caffeine stimulates the central nervous system, drinking coffee at night can leave you awake for hours past your bedtime. Although everyone’s sensitivity to caffeine will vary, experts suggest avoiding coffee at least 3 hours before bed.

4. Cheeses

A late-night snack of cheese and crackers could leave you wide awake and counting sheep. Cheese contains a high level of tyramine. This amino acid produces norepinephrine, a stimulant that promotes brain activity. As you try to relax in bed, tyramine could cause a racing, anxious mind.

5. Dark Chocolate

Although dark chocolate is a healthier dessert option, it can, unfortunately, prevent you from getting shut-eye. Like coffee, dark chocolate contains caffeine, which can interfere with sleep. Just 1.55 ounces of dark chocolate contains 12 mg of caffeine. Additionally, chocolate contains theobromine, which can speed up the heart rate and increase wakefulness.

6. Protein-Rich Foods

Protein-rich foods can reduce the amount of tryptophan that can reach the brain. As we mentioned above, tryptophan is essential for the production of serotonin. Tryptophan must compete with protein to get through the blood-brain barrier. This competition reduces the chance that tryptophan will ever convert to serotonin. Protein also contains tyrosine, an amino acid that increases brain activity.

7. Acid-Rich Foods

Like cheese, acid-rich foods, such as tomato sauce and citrus fruits, contain tyramine. As we mentioned above, tyramine can increase wakefulness and make sleep difficult to come by.

8. Spicy Food

Spicy foods can increase blood flow and raise your body temperature, which is not conducive to sleep. You can still have spicy curry for dinner, but be sure to give your body at least 3 hours to fully digest your meal before bedtime.

In addition to establishing healthy sleep hygiene, eating some of the best foods for sleep outlined above can help you find a better night’s sleep.

How to Compress a Memory Foam Mattress at Home

If you’re like me, you’ve made the decision to just buy a new mattress when you move to avoid the hassle of carrying a spineless bed in and out of narrow doorways.

And sure, that’s an okay method unless you happen to really love your current mattress.

If you found the bed that is perfect for you, you don’t want to buy a new one. Even if you bought the exact same model again, there’s no guarantee it’ll feel the same. You know the ol’ saying, “you can’t buy the same mattress twice.”

Plus, let’s be honest, buying a new mattress when you move can get costly.

Luckily, memory foam mattresses can actually be compressed at home. If you’re familiar with the bed in a box concept, chances are you’re already familiar with compressing a memory foam mattress. But I bet you haven’t done it at home before.

Don’t worry. That’s why we’re here. In this post, we’ll cover how to compress a memory foam mattress in 5 easy steps.

1. Get the materials you’ll need

  • Sealable mattress bag. You can get this at a local u-haul or on Amazon. They’ll most likely come in a package that says for king or queen size mattress.
  • Duct Tape. Everyone has duct tape in their toolbox, right? Whatever you do, don’t try and use a different type of tape. There’s a lot of weight and pressure you’re about to compress, and you need the strength of duct tape.
  • Vacuum. Believe it or not, you don’t need an industrial vacuum to compress a memory foam mattress at home. You just need a vacuum with a hose.
  • Scissors or something sharp. It can even be a house key. You’ll only need to use this once, and it’s to cut a hole in the sealable mattress bag.

2. Remove bedding and clean the mattress

You want your mattress in factory condition. That means no sheets, no protectors, no pillows.

We also recommend that you put your mattress on the floor. Once you start sucking the air out and compressing your memory foam mattress, you’ll be applying weight on it (more on this below) and this is easier done when the bed is on a very hard surface, such as your floor.

But before you get started with the next step, we recommend you vacuum the mattress for two reasons.

Cleaning a mattress is important and too few of us do it regularly. Take the opportunity here to spend a little extra time and vacuum your mattress.

You’re compressing your bed which, depending on its size, will end up weighing between 80 to 140+ lbs. We don’t want any hair or dander or dirty to be compressed under the much pressure into the fabric of your mattress.

3. Cover the mattress with the plastic bag and seal it up

Once your mattress is clean and positioned, just cover it with the sealable matttress bag you’ve purchased. It’s important there are no tears or holes in this bag. If you do accidentally tear it, you need to patch it up with your handy duct tape.

When your mattress is covered, seal the bag up. Most store-bought sealable bags make this very easy. If it’s not going smoothly, you can use duct tape again.

4. Vacuum the air out.

Now take your sharp object and cut a hole in the sealable mattress bag. Do this at the head or the foot of the mattress. The hole doesn’t need to be big, you’re just using it to insert your vacuum hose.

After you’ve inserted the vacuum hose, you want to duct tape around the hole and the vacuum hose to seal that up and prevent any air from escaping. But, don’t go too crazy on the duct tape. You’ll need to get your vacuum hose back out safely without damaging the plastic bag.

Once it’s all connected, turn the vacuum on and . . .

5. Roll the new skinny mattress up and secure it.

. . .start rolling your mattress up. It’s easier to do this by applying weight on your mattress as the vacuum sucks out the air. Just crawl (hands and knees) on the mattress and your body weight will help you compress your bed down.

Once you have it down to its thinnest layer (you’ll know cause the air will have stopped going out), secure it.

You can secure your bed by using more duct tape. You can also use ratcheting straps or rope. Whatever’s easiest for you. The point is to restrict movement so the bed can’t come undone, poke a hole in the bag, and re-inflate on you during your move.

And that’s it! We’ve done this a few times and it’s usually taking us about 5 – 10 minutes. If you have questions or concerns, reach out to us in the comments and we’ll get back to you.

But for now, we’re going to answer two more questions we often get asked.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long should you leave a memory foam mattress before sleeping on it?

If you bought a bed in a box mattress before, you’re probably familiar with a waiting period after you unbox your bed.

Unfortunately, if you ask the mattress company why you need to wait, you’ll get a variety of answers and sometimes just awkward silences.

The reasons are two-fold.

You want to give your new mattress time to off-gas (something all beds and most pieces of furniture do) before you cover it up.
Memory foam mattresses need to expand fully before you put significant weight on them.

Reason number one only applies to new beds, but reason number two applies to the bed you just compressed at home.

Because of this, we recommend you unwrap your bed and let it sit fully inflated for two hours before sleeping on it.

Are some memory foam mattresses easier to compress than others?

Yes.

That’s the short answer.

One of the biggest distinguishing factors between memory foam mattresses is foam density. Density is measured as PCF, or pounds per cubic foot.

The more dense your layer of foam, the heavier it is. The heavier it is, the harder it’ll be to compress.

Plus, mattress thickness plays a role. The thicker your mattress, the harder it’ll be to compress.

Still, assuming your mattress is between 8 and 15 inches, you should be able to compress your memory foam mattress at home following the instructions above.
